H. spirit is the GPS of truth1. “Guide you in to all truth (v13)” . We cannot find certain truth about God by ourselves. No amount of self-understanding or knowledge will help. We need a guide to take us into “all the truth ”
2. Three times it is mentioned “declare this to you”. Declare means to announce. So He announces
A. future (v13)
B. Glorify Jesus and show Jesus’ attributes (v 14)
C. Glorify God through Jesus (v15)
Joy and peace are emphasized during Jesus’ birth (good news of great joy & peace on earth). Here in this passage, the same themes have been iterated. Only Jesus can offer real joy & peace as a result of our constant communion with Him.
1. Resurrection
-“In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me” (v16). I’ll be resurrected from death, and then I’ll be with you for a short while, and I’m going to the Father. Take courage! I have overcome the world. (v33).
2. Rejoice
-You will weep and mourn while the world rejoices for my death. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to Joy (v20). Now is your time of grief, but I’ll see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your Joy (v22), for that Joy is complete and permanent! That is the promise Jesus gives us. Let’s remain in Him to rejoice that Joy!
3. Receive
-Because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God, my Father himself loves you (v27); so, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete! (v24).
24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask , and you will receive , that your joy may be full. – It looks like the deciples have not asked, what Jesus expected them to ask.
– still they didn’t have the vision about Kingdom of God.
– ask and it will be given to you ….true, we can ask anything, but He is trying to give something which is everlasting, complete and full !
The baby that caused the pain and also caused the joy in birth. God transforms trail into triumph, sorrow to joy, impossible to possible. உலகத்தில் உங்களுக்கு உபத்திரவம் உண்டு, ஆனாலும் திடன்கொள்ளுங்கள்; நான் உலகத்தை ஜெயித்தேன்.
Vs 20 … You will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. -the world is rejoicing over injustice.’It is a broken world. ‘ ‘ Life is unfair ‘ are common lines we hear so often.
But we take heart because He has overcome the world. In Him we have peace and joy .
The disciples are certainly interesting. I don’t know what sayings of Jesus changed but for some reason they were able to understand things finally (vv 29-31)
From this passage, Father wants to give us a lot but we as the disciples are not asking anything in his name, may be we are asking others but not God. God wants us to help us in all our tribulations and struggles as he has already travelled this path.
Jesus was a role model when he was in this world. He had his own tribulations and was tested, but he stood firm with prayer and His fathers help.
Similarly we also would be tested in our faith in so many ways, but we should stand firm with God’s help. We should ask for HIS strength and guidance to withstand all the tribulations.
