“Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word”- I wish God would be able to say about us, as people who have obeyed/kept his word
“I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”John 17:23 Jesus pray to God that when he is crucified, he wants to remain in us and God in him, he repeatedly says that he has given his word to us and whoever keeps Gods word in their and heart and follows them let me remain in them. He wants Gods to protect us.
Jesus is concerned about the unity, protection, and sanctity of his disciples. He prays so that they may be one (v. 11), protected from the evil one (v. 15), and sanctified (v. 17).
God loves us as much as he loved his son (v 23). Nothing more we can ask for.
In this passage, 1)Jesus prays for us: Jesus prays for the people who will believe Jesus through the disciples message.
2) Jesus and Father within us: Jesus prays for Jesus and his father can be in us.
3) He gives his glory to us: Jesus has given us the glory for us to be one. (Like the father and Jesus)
4) He wants us to be united: He wants us to be in unity so that the world believes that the father sent Jesus and he loves him.
5) Jesus wants us to be with him: Jesus prayes to his Father so that we may with him to see his glory.
நாம் ஒன்றாயிருக்கிறதுபோல அவர்களும் ஒன்றாயிருக்கும்படி, நீர் எனக்குத் தந்த மகிமையை நான் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தேன். ஒருமைப்பாட்டில் அவர்கள் தேறினவர்களாயிருக்கும்படிக்கும்…..Oneness is something God wants in us as default. This is Jesus ‘s prayer for people who believe and follow him.
Jesus prayed for his believers: Jesus loves his people so much that he prayed for them, we should love him in the same way. Jesus loves you, and we should love him too.
(V 15) Jesus wants us to be separated from the evil things in this world.(V13 )Jesus wants us to be joyful. He wants us to have his full measure of joy in our lives.
(V17)”sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth “: Jesus wants us to be sanctified through his word. When we accept his word into our hearts, and obey them, we will be clean(John 15:3)
(V24)If we are his disciples then we will have a place to be with him, a place to be with him forever. He wants us to be with him forever.
1. His Prayer
-His Prayer to Father is “save us from evil one (v15). Sanctify us by the Truth: Word of God is Truth” (v17). Whoever believe in Him through their message, that all of them may be ONE; just as Father is in Him and He is in Father! (v 20-21). If we believe in Him, believers should be ONE, stay united, no matter what happens! Are we???
2. His Glory
-He has given us the glory that Father gave Him, that we can be ONE, as the Father and Son are ONE (v22). “I in them, and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete UNITY” (Amen!). If we don’t stay united, it DISHONORS Him and the Father!
3. His Desire
-Jesus asks “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am”, For what? To see His Glory, the Glory that Father has given Him even before the creation of the world (v24). Amen! Let’s prepare ourselves to be with Him and in His Glory!
Jesus prayed to God to help the disciples and protect them because Jesus will not be with them.
Jesus prays for our protection. Protection against the evil so that we may not be lost.
You should pray for everyone like Jesus prayed
Jesus prayed for all believers to be as one body under one head and one soul. He emphasized the Trinity bonding as our union with Christ and Father and through Holy spirit dwelling in us.
John:17:11-26Jesus lived a holy life in this world. He sets a model to us. He prayed for His disciples and He prays to God the Father to give them the same place which Jesus had.
Jesus teaches us love in all circumstances, that’s why He prays for His disciples and their followers. He didn’t see people differently categorizing them as followers and disciples, but thinks and considers them as one common flock.
Let’s also love everyone equally with no differences and become His true disciples by praying for everyone.
This is how a prayer of a Christian needs to be. Just not praying for miracles, not praying for worldly blessings, not praying for their health. But praying to stay away from love of world (v 16) praying to hold on to His Word(v 17), praying to live holy like how HE lived a testimonial holy life (v 19). If our prayer style changes from pleasing us to pleasing Him like this high priest prayer, We will surely find the purpose of our life and He will be glorified by us (v 10)
16 They are not of the world , just as I am not of the world. – Is this true with me or am I part of this ‘They’?
-After receiving orange fruit, my son when he was a baby was playing with it by throughing and rolling that on the floor. Why?… He perceived that as a ball.
– same way, I will look at the worldly pleasures like a ball not fruit, if I am not of the world
