Romans 2 Circumcision (law) should be by the spirit and not by the written code (v 29). Obey God, follow him, remain in him, etc. all mean the same thing. It’s the culture of grace and our culture is based on how and why we love God.
Paul is continuing to talk to the Jews in Rome , like Jesus did to the Pharisees!Vs 5, 4 – stubbornness and unrepentant heart will store up god’s wrath for the judgment day but god’s kindness leads to repentance.
v. 16 God will judge the secret thoughts of all. In I Samuel 16:7, God said, “the Lord looks on the heart.” We should ask God to create in us a clean and pure heart.
v. 21 you, then, who teaches others, do you not teach yourself?. (v. 23) You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
-I have heard a preacher saying like this that “follow what I preach, don’t follow what I do” as mentioned in Matthew 23:3. He literally used this verse to escape from his wrong doings against God!
-But, we are all same to God. For God does not show favoritism (v. 11). God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” (v. 6).
If we judge others then God will judge us. That means that if we judge others then God will put us in hell. We should not judge other people.
I used hear a Pastor telling ‘I preach 100 % as per Bible. I won’t deviate’. If is good. He used to preach like ‘you have to sell all your properties, donate and follow Jesus’. – I am not against selling everything and donating. But is that what Jesus expects?
– If I live in comfort and preach to others this way what is the use?
– Bible should help teach me first. I should preach through my testimonies
– Change should be inside. Be ready to loose anything. God expects me to loose the one that makes me say ‘I AM THIS’. The one to loose varies from person to person
The other way to say it is any thing that us not of Jesus in me , should die
If you say don’t do wrong things and you do the same thing, it is wrong.
We should not be self seeking and reject the truth and follow evil, but we should seek God and his glory.
God’s judgement is based on the truth (v. 2) God’s kindness is for us to repent, stubbornness should not make the heart unrepentant(v4,5)
God’s righteous judgement is for all, God doesn’t show favoritism. (v11)
God’s kindness will lead us to eternal life, it is not the goodness of ourself.
God will repay according to each one’s deeds (v. 6). There are only two consequences. One is eternal life and another is wrath and fury (vv. 7-8).
It is written in verse 13, “For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but the doers of the law who will be justified”. We should not be just hearers of God’s word but doers of God’s word so that we might be justified.
v. 24 When we say we are Christians and don’t walk like one, then Gods name is blasphemed among Gentiles because of us.
Paul is saying that whenever people pass judgment on someone else, when they say that those who do such things deserve to punishment, they are also guilty of the same kind of sin. We are all guilty of something, so we should not judge other people.
Let us pray that we should be real Christians, not outwardly, but inwardly; in the heart and spirit, not in the letter; baptized, not with water only, but with the Holy Ghost; and let our praise be, not of men, but of God.
