Joshua 3

Today, we may not have the experience of seeing a rushing river stop and crossing through it on dry ground. But we have these stories that bear witness to the truth that God is among us and will do amazing things as he has promised. God will make a way where there seems to be “no way”.We need to listen to him, read his word, understand what he is saying to us and then be prepared to obey. We must believe that nothing is too difficult for God. Will we walk by sight or by faith?

Joshua obeys God’s instruction and he guides the people to follow the ark
2. People are asked to sanctify themselves
3. Priests carrying the ark of covenant are asked to lead the people
4. God magnifies Joshua since he obeyed and followed God’s instruction- His reward
5. Jordan was divided and the people were brought to safety.
God made use of Joshua to bring His people(Israelites) to their promised land. He used Joshua to serve His purpose. Our God is a living God who calls us just for who we are. He can do marvelous things through His chosen one. But before all, we should listen and understand His calling to do His will

Just so we don’t assume that the priests had anything to do with the Jordan standing in a heap, the writer reiterates “…as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord – the Lord of all the earth – set foot in the Jordan…its waters…will…stand in a heap” (v. 13)

Leadership involves risk taking. The priests boldly bearing the ark of the covenant went in front of the people and stood on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, until the entire nation finished crossing over the Jordan (vv.14-17). The overflowing water was not a threat but a treat for the leaders.

God helped the Israelites by letting them cross the Jordan river, so that means God will help us too.

Crossing Red sea was the first milestone and now crossing Jordan is another milestone. If we relate crossing Red sea as Salvation / born again, crossing Jordan indicates, there is another milestone to cross in our Spiritual journey. – 7 tribes caught my eyes. Defeating 7 (v10..He will without fail drive out from you…) is like cleansing 7 compartments within us with the help of 7 spiritual experiences / getting 7 keys of Kingdom

v. 7 The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses”.
-God brought Israelites from Egypt through Moses and people believed that God was with Moses. After Moses, God wants to make Israelites believe that he is still with them and he should be able to take them to the land flowing with milk and honey by doing miracles through Joshua.
-Our God is the faithful God who keeps his promises (Deut 7:9).
