The Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have handed Jericho to you” (v. 2). The Lord also gave instructions to follow. Joshua being confident in the Lord took the Lord’s promise and his instructions seriously and followed it carefully. For example, he said to the people boldly, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city” (v. 16). As a result, the people with ONE VOICE shouted, the wall fell flat.

This passage has too many why questions. Not sure how Joshua was able to convince the people to follow these weird instructions. Why 7 days? why 7 times on the 7th day? why the trumpet? why the shout? why the killing of every living thing?…at the end Joshua’s fame spread because the Lord was with him, the only reason he was able to convince the people also, I think

v. 23 They brought Rahab’s entire family and put them in a place “outside” the camp of Israel. Quite interesting. The tree from which the Savior is to be born is “outside” the camp. Also He was always right there and they never realized it.

v. 25 Joshua spared Rahab and her family members because received the spies in her house and helped them, because she understands the power of God. Joshua brought them to the “Promised Land” with them and she lived among them!
-(5:6) Israelites had moved about 40 years in the wilderness until all the men who were of military age when they had left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the Lord. For the Lord had sworn to them that they would not see the “Promised Land”!
-The one who obey to His words will enter into the “Promised Land” (Kingdom of God). No matter Israelites or Gentiles, no matter how our past life was!

v. 26 Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: Cursed before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: “At the cost of his firstborn son he will lay it’s foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”
-(1 King 16:34) In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua!
-(Matthew 24:35) Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away!

In Deuteronomy 7 we can find God’s instructions clearly which starts like this ‘ 2 and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you , you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.’ Reason for that is explained after that.- In today’s context, we should show no mercy in killing evil thoughts in our mind. Our job is to make our heart a Holy place.

It is amazing to see how they trusted Joshua and followed his instruction for seven days, even though they didn’t see anything happen for 6 day. I wonder what the mind of the people was when they woke up on the 7th day. Pray that God would help me to trust in him more and more..

Joshua did what God told him to do. He told the people to march around the wall once a day for 6 days. On the 7th day they have to march around the wall 7 times and then when the priests blow the trumpets they have to shout. We should listen to what God tells us to do.

The things that I learned from the victory at Jericho is- Faith, Obedience ,Courage and Trust in the Lord.When we believe him and obey his words, he gives us courage and wisdom to overcome all the obstacles… We need to wait on the Lord and trust Him…

God promised Joshua that he will be with him.(1:5) In 6:27 we see, “the Lord was with Joshua.” Our God is a promise giving God and promise keeping God.

1. Joshua and the Israelites obeyed Gods commands
2. Joshua and the Israelites were willing to look foolish and simply rest in the Lord, since He was their source of strength.
If we want to overcome our obstacles and testings, we must simply submit to our Lord like the Israelites did. He will be our source of strength and He will guide us to overcome our obstacles.

Yet another amazing awesome miracle by ‘The Almighty’.
How great is our God! His ways are far beyond our understanding.
“By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days. By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. Hebrews 11:30,31
Faith is the key.
Obedience is a result of faith. It’s the way to show our faith.
By faith and obedience we can bring down the walls that hinder our joy and peace, and enjoy the goodness of His promises.
