If we forget the total destruction and merciless extermination (v. 20) of the people of Canaan and just focus on what God did for the Israelites, it is a pretty big miracle. A bunch of nomads taking over more established kingdoms with ease and striking fear in their hearts.

Then the land had rest from war.

v. 15 Joshua left nothing undone of all that Lord commanded Moses.

A classic example for leadership transition. “As the Lord had commanded his servant, Moses so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses” (v. 15).

(v19) Joshua waged war against all the kings and destroyed them totally, except for the Hivites living in Gibeon who made a treaty of peace with Israelites.
-(v20) God itself hardened their (the kings’) hearts to wage war against Israelites, so that God might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy.
-As Gibeonites made covenant with Israelites we should make covenant with God, in other words, follow His covenants, so God will show mercy to us and save us.

v. 6 But the Lord said to Joshua , “Do not be afraid because of them , for tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. .. – sometimes we are afraid seeing the face of the problem, but God says don’t be afraid I will deliver all of them slain before you.
23 …யுத்தம் ஓய்ந்திருந்ததினால் தேசம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.
– at the end, this is what I achieve in my heart.

Joshua did as God told him to do. God helped Joshua to win the final battle. At last, there was peace. We need to know God’s will and obey his words. God is among us and will do amazing things as he has promised. I thank God for all the good things that he has done for me.

v. 6 When Joshua was fulfilling God’s assignment he was constantly encouraged by God. Affirmation and encouragement can give confidence and courage We have a God who encourages us. We should also learn to encourage our children and our community.
