The Israelites failed to complete the conquest of the promised land. Having started out well after the death of Joshua by inquiring the Lord, the Israelites failed to keep up the momentum by allowing the inhabitants to live with them.
“The Lord was with the men of Judah…but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots” (v. 19). This seems to be a serious problem. However, we do not see them repenting and asking the Lord, why? as in Joshua 7:6-7.
This chapter repeatedly refers that Israel failed to fulfill God’s commands,”the driving out the inhabitants”. Is there anything God reminds us repeatedly?
Let’s do it.
(vv.1-2) After the death of Joshua, Israelites “asked the Lord”, who of us is to go up first to fight against the Canaanites”. The Lord answered “Judah shall go up; I have given the land into their hand”.
-Israelites were still obeying to the Lord after the death of Joshua and Eleazar, and asked the Lord what should they do, who should go up first to fight against Canaanites.
-We should also seek His guidance first on whatever we do. With His guidance “and” support, we can achieve anything. Without His guidance “and” support, we can “never” achieve anything.
