“The Lord could no longer bear to see Israel suffer” (v. 16). The Lord cannot tolerate to see his children suffer even when they suffer for their own reason. “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love” (Psalm 103: 8).

By now, we know better than to trust the Israelites. We know they are going to do evil in the eyes of the Lord when their leader is gone. Their default state is to go after Baals. Once in a while, they go (back) to God.But thankfully, God is much more gracious than us. It pains him to accept his people back (v. 16). But he still does. The only hope for mankind.

13 அப்படியிருந்தும் நீங்கள் என்னைவிட்டு, அந்நிய தேவர்களைச் சேவித்தீர்கள். ஆகையால் உங்களை இரட்சியேன். 16 அந்நிய தேவர்களைத் தங்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து விலக்கிவிட்டு, கர்த்தருக்கு ஆராதனை செய்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவர் இஸ்ரவேலின் வருத்தத்தைப் பார்த்து மனதுருகினார்.
– Punishment from God is not just to punish but to help choose the right path.

In this chapter we see God as a jealous God, angry God, God of compassion.The Lord became angry when his children no longer worshipped him. (Jealous)In the previous passages we see God sending a leader to save his people when they cry to him. But in this chapter the Lord says he is no longer going to save. Yet he is a God of compassion. He cannot see his children suffering. Our God is not going to be quiet when we, his children suffer.

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Gen 6:5 Again the Israelites go back to Baal and sin.
Again they cry out to God in their oppression and turn to God.
Again God shows compassion on them and helps them.
Thank God for his mercy.

(vv.13, 14) When Israelites cried out to the Lord, He said you have forsaken me, I will no longer save you. Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble.
-If we do evil in the eyes of the Lord, this is the response we would get from Him. We will be away from His presence. He will no longer save us. Our God is a Holy God, He expects us to be Holy.

(v.16) Israelites vicious behavior seems like as because they had the forgiving merciful God, they tend to follow other Gods and ask for forgiveness whenever needed. This reminds me the verse Romans 6:1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?The answer is Romans 6:2 “By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer”

(v. 16) மனதுருகி one of the awesome attribute of our God
