The people are looking for God but through their own means, through ephods, carved images, cast idols and other household gods (v. 17), things explicitly forbidden.

The Danites remembered their ancestor and named their city after Dan. However, they failed to remember their God.

The previous chapter, Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will be good to me, since THIS Levite has become MY priest.” Now look at this priest, he is very pleased to go with the bigger gang.
That tells a lot about his loyalty toward Micah who helped him when he needed a place to stay.
Now look at this Danites gang. They go and attack an unsuspecting people who live in peace, safe, secure, prosperous, spacious land.
And look at the words of the priest: “Go in peace. Your journey has the Lord’s approval.”
Lord’s Approval?? Hmmmm….sounds sham!

As a Levite he might have the doctrines and the rituals correct but his actions doesn’t please GOD and is not a true man of GOD

(v. 24) Micah replied, “You took the gods I made”. Micah talks about the “idols” he made to worship. He went behind the Danites to get his gods.
-The lowercase “g” god not only refers idols but also any worldly things. Or, in general, the force that tempts us for the worldly things, which is nothing but the prince of the world (Satan).
-Jesus replied (Matthew 4:10), “Away from me Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”. We should not worship or go behind the lowercase “g” god. We should always worship and be with the Lord our God.

Thank God, We are delivered from that “g” in right time
