The dire consequences of choosing to live without God.
The Israelites followed the path of Sodom and Gomorrah.
A ridiculous story, with lots of “seriously?” moments! No mention of God or god anywhere. Depicts nothing more than the total depravity of everyone involved, except the Levite’s servant! Fortunately, the Levite was able to motivate the people of Israel to do something (v. 30). At least they realized something was not right.
I agree that the story is ridiculous … The city is just like sodom. Any thoughts on the old man’s role? He seemed just like Lot to me!
(vv. 20-24) has the very similar situation like Genesis 19:2-8. Both are in chapter 19!
-In Genesis, the people of Sodom and Gomorrah did not listen to Lot. God destroyed the entire cities.
-Here, the wicked people of Gibeah did not listen to the old man. God punishes the entire tribes of Benjamin in the next chapter.
-Lot was trying to save the angels of the Lord, here the old man is trying to save the priest (God’s servant).
