Psalm 73: Asaph’s desire for God, God’s presence, and God’s sanctuary is shown in this Psalm. He confidently said, “there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you” (v. 25). In addition to this, Asaph kept life here and life forever (eternity) in right perspective. “You guide me with your counsel and afterward you will receive me with honor” (v. 24).

God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Vs 26

Psalm 73: The prosperity of the wicked and the nonbeliever makes no sense till you enter the sanctuary of God (v. 17), when you can’t but feel sorry for them. Eternity is the only things that matters beyond our life on earth.

Psalm 73:17 till Asaph entered the sanctuary of God he could not comprehend the flourishing of the wicked. He sounds as a tempted person BUT things changed after that. The sanctuary of God did show the destiny of the wicked.

Psalm 74:28 It is good for me to draw near to God. I have put my trust in the Lord God that I may declare all thy works.

Psalm 73- Asaph writes this Psalm when he was disturbed looking at the wicked, when people praise them and find no fault with them.v.10He did not stop with that, when he went to God’s sanctuary he found an answer for righteous living.
Asaph writes,
-God will be with us continually
-He will hold our right hand
-He will guide us with His counsel
-Afterward God will receive us with honor.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”‭‭Psalm‬ ‭73:26‬ ‭
I’ll always praise God no matter what, because he’s my strength and my guidance.

Psalm 73 talks about the tragedies that the wicked will face and how blessed it is to trust in God. In fact, verse 28 not only says blessed, it also says it is GOOD to draw near to God. We should always draw near to God, not because we are blessed, but because it is GOOD to do so. –

This Psalm asks not the question why bad things happen to good people but the opposite: Why good things happen to bad people? The answer to this question is frustrating “until”v.17. That is enter the sanctuary. Only under long view it becomes clear. But this answer is incomplete.The word heart comes again and again. The whole Psalm is a story of a heart in love with God which gets distracted, irritated, wants to break away but then restored to joy. How? Because v.1- God is good to Israel is actually the conclusion of this Psalm. It is actually where the Psalm ends. That’s not where it starts. It is conclusion after a long battle with the problem of “prosperity theology”.
So where did the turn happen then? The whole Psalm will be meaningless and will never resolve (think bad music!) until we look for the secret in v.28- when the covenant name YAhweh is used. There is nothing precious beyond that. That’s why we believe this God of Asaph. Like a good musician he keep the best at the end.

Psalm 73 -If we are pure in heart (v1), if we are always with God…
-He will hold us by our right hand, He will guide us with His counsel, and finally He will take us into His Glory (v23-24).
