Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart to revere your name.”This is my prayer today.
Psalm 86: Our Lord is good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on him (v. 5). He answers when we call on him (v. 7). He is great and does wondrous things (v. 10). He is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (v. 15).
Ps 86:11 … Give me an undivided heart so that I may fear your name.
Psalm 86:11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
David is defenseless. He goes to his private clinic. He cries “O Lord” too many times compared to his normal lament. Strangely he is not calling on the covenantal name “my God”. (Except in v12). He gets a glimpse on the sovereignty of God (“Lord”). When his life is out of control, he is looking at one who is in control.
Apparently, his heart is divided among too many desires and worries. What he needs is one big desire that masters the other little one. What he needs is not to get a grip on many things, but gripped by the sovereign one – Give me an undivided heart. Undivided heart where can one find it?
Psalm 86:11. A divided heart dilutes our focus, so we need to be single-hearted. It’s a big challenge but like the psalmist, we need to ask God sincerely.
The Lord watches over you the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
“I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.”Psalm 86:12-13
We should praise God at all times. When we are in trouble God will come and save us because he loves us. –
Psalm 86 -(v10) For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.
-There is none like our Lord. He is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Let’s praise Him, and bring glory to His name.
Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. – Psalm 86:11
