A good question to ask ourselves: Where do we set our mind? On the things of the flesh or on the things of the Spirit? “To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace” (v. 6).
Jesus fully met the righteous requirement of the law in us (v 4). We did not receive a spirit that makes us slaves to fear but the Spirit of sonship (v 15)
Jesus taking the human form fulfilled the requirement of the law. Wow😀 there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
As we hear and see many wrong outward signs of holy spirit manifestations, make us to shy away from the real holy spirit manifestations. As per this chapter we will either be in flesh or in spirit of Christ but not on both. Spirit of Christ empowers from the struggle of flesh on chapter 7 and Paul says I was in flesh (chapter 7) but now in spirit and I am re leaved (8:2)
I feel like I am still in chapter 7 in my life.
When I think about all my past sufferings, trials and failures and how God always answered prayers with his miraculous deliverance, restoration, protection and healing, I have come to realize that all this has always brought me one step Closer to Him, Strengthened my Faith, Renewed my Hope and thought me Patience and has always been a constant reminder of His love, His glory and let me know that I’m His child.I was once told a story by my uncle about my great, great, great (ok let’s say) great^6 grandfather who was a staunch hindu priest and when he could not save his own dying son sought the help of a missionary for deliverance and was Saved by Christ. When my great^6 grandfather’s suffering , deliverance and decision could impact his whole generation then think about how much more of an impact should I be to my children(future generation), family , friends, neighbors or anyone I come across ,having the privilege of knowing Christ my entire life.
I once heard a preacher say “As the blessed we should be a blessing bringing Hope and Healing”.
My prayer is that God would teach me and help me lead a life by the Spirit and reveal His glory through me to His creation.
Jesus Christ is our loving Heavenly Father. He is merciful and gracious to everyone. If we are in the faith of Jesus Christ, we are free from the condemnation that we deserve for our sinful nature.
And we can also be sure that because of HIS grace we will never be separated from HIS love. HIS grace is not temporary for HIS children.
No ” OFF” button mind—————————–
No one just has a mind. People have a mind set. Set on something. Set “ON”. It cannot be turned OFF ( through meditation or yoga).
It is like a telescope looking to the things above or things below. We have to look through it to somewhere. No one looking into a telescope can look nowhere. The telescope is set ON something always.
Similarly, If the Spirit is controlling ( by dwelling ) the mind, it is set on (v6) looking into the things of the Spirit. Should I say things above? We all know what happens when we try to hold on to it. “Naturally” I go down.
A mind that is merely educated will not set us on the things of the Spirit. Else St.Paul (not Prof.Paul) would say that we need PhD. Trust me it does not help. Our problem is not that minds are finite but they are fallen. Only the Spirit of God can set us on fire for God and his glory.
Aramaic language has some Tamil flavor in it, “Abba, Father”!
-(v15) The spirit we have received, when we believe in Him, has brought about our adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father”.
-We became God’s children through the blood of Jesus! That’s what Jesus said in John 20:17 “My Father and your Father, My God and your God”. Jesus is God’s child by nature, now we are God’s children by the grace of Jesus. Amen!
Vs 6 – the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.
34 Who is He who condemns? It is Christ who died , and furthermore is also risen , who is even at the right hand of God , who also makes intercession for us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life , nor angels nor principalities nor powers , nor things present nor things to come ,
39 nor height nor depth , nor any other created thing , shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
– what a great strong declaration it is! I love reading this again and again. I gain strength when I read this. It has all vitamins, minerals….😄
We are God’s children.we have the spirit of sonship to call unto him as Abba Father.V31) if God is for us,who can be against us?
This verse gives me confidence and charges me when I am down🔋🔋
If we live according to flesh, we cannot please God and so let’s set our mind on the things of the spirit and live according to the Spirit.
